A more holistic approach to tackling childhood obesity

A

The ever increasing childhood obesity epidemic needs to be addressed if a generation of adults are to escape the myriad of health issues (mental and physical) that accompany being overweight or obese.

Promotion of healthy eating and an improvement in school meals etc. does not appear to be having the required impact.

It must therefore be recognised that a different approach is required – a method easily incorporated into the lives of everyday families, in which change is gradual with achievable measurable goals and very importantly fits in with individual families time and budgetary restraints.

Also an aspect which seems to be generally overlooked is the personality of the child – this governs his/her reaction to change and the hence the outcome. One of the corner stones of this approach is the understanding of the child’s personality type enabling positive management of the change process accompanied by appropriate reinforcement and rewards.

There are very good family orientated websites where most of this information can be gleaned, but, this takes time and skills not always readily available to many families. Trimmertots is the first umbrella method to become readily available, providing a complete package individually tailored  to the needs of each family.
