In response to the events of September 11, 2001, the FATF took action to combat the financing of terrorism by adopting the Nine Special Recommendations on Terrorist Financing. Combined with the FATF 40 Recommendations on Money Laundering, the Nine Special Recommendations outline the basic framework to detect, prevent and suppress the financing of terrorism and terrorist acts.
