Think Beyond CAT – Take SOIL Caliper Profiling Test

The company we all know – Sony. But how many of us know that Sony’s first product was a rice cooker that sold less than 100 units? If Morita, the founder, had not persisted beyond this failure, Sony would never have been a multi-billion dollar company. Colonel Sanders of KFC fame was rejected 1009 times before hitting success! Edison made 1000 unsuccessful attempts to invent the light bulb before he shot to fame.

All these and so many more stories abound of failures that turned inside out became successes and yet we get disheartened after a demanding examination and our humble results. The big CAT exam that is applicable for a few hundred post graduate institutes is important because in a country such as ours with over 2 lakh aspirants we sometimes need filter mechanisms. But at an individual level, at a micro level, do we really want to be filtered out? Or do we want to be ‘selected’ for who we are? Do you find yourself wishing that there was an institute that saw you for your strengths and allowed you to compete with yourself? Well it’s time to research and then reach out to such institutions.

The School of Inspired Leadership (SOIL) does exactly this by using the Caliper Profiling tool to select students into the program. The Caliper is a test that you take in a controlled environment and the results tell the assessor more about your skills, your areas of strength, your possible areas of improvement and other traits. Armed with this information the assessor can appreciate better whether you will be able to make it through the rigor of SOIL’s one year program and whether this program is meant for you. The Caliper report is also used by our students to guide their mentoring relationships with senior corporate executives throughout their academic year at SOIL. This very individual learning and student centric methodology is what SOIL is really about. Each of our learning interventions have been designed to help a student find and then excel in her chosen stream. For instance, throughout the year, each student works with a committed non-profit organization to discover your leadership skills and apply them in area that is ambiguous and full of constant change. This helps the student appreciate how to achieve maximum success with limited resources and at the same time builds in her a sense of compassion that drives her to action. Another learning intervention that unveils your real strength is the course on Appreciative Inquiry conducted as a week-long program in the foothills of Dharamshala (Sidhbari). Through various case studies, lectures, group activities and reflection you understand what it is that you truly want to do and how you can get there. And in the course of all this, you are supported by faculty who have been leaders in the industry but have now chosen to develop students and are driven by a deep sense of commitment and passion.

Now, as a next step, make the time to reflect on your own strengths and ambitions. Figure out how these two connect. Then figure out the gaps, if any and start working towards filling these. Strive to achieve whatever it takes to fill that gap. Ask yourself now – what would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail? Take the Caliper test today to see where your strength lies and then consider joining SOIL to learn more about leveraging these strengths for greater success.
