Los Angeles, CA, February 3, 2010 – Kai Soremekun, director of the independent web series CHICK, took home her first Indie Soap Award Monday night for “Best Directing”. Soremekun was one of six directors nominated. CHICK was nominated in four other categories including “Best Indie Soap” and “Fans Choice Award.”

Soremekun may write, direct and star in the series, but is quick to realize her success does not come single handedly. “It’s acknowledgments like those given by the Indie Soap Awards that help independent shows like CHICK keep going.” said Soremekun.

The first annual Indie Soap Awards were developed by We Love Soaps, to honor the efforts of creative forces in the world of independent web series production. The award show was telecasted from New York City on various websites simultaneously.

CHICK is a comic drama that proposes a world where everyday people can become superheroes, encouraging the exploration of human potential. The web series follows the adventures of Lisa, played by Soremekun, a young woman disillusioned with her life and on a quest to realize what she believes is her destiny: to become a superhero.

Kai Soremekun is an award-winning director/producer who received national exposure when she was chosen by Steven Spielberg, from a pool of 12,000 filmmakers, to participate in the FOX reality competition On The Lot.

CHICK the Web Series launched in November 2009 and airs new webisodes every Tuesday.  To view Soremekun’s award acceptance speech and watch episodes of CHICK visit www.whoischick.com.
