College Students Getting Ahead in a Tough Economy through International Internships

San Francisco, CA Dec 9, 2009 – According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers’ 2010 Job Outlook Report, U.S. employers expect to hire about 7 percent fewer graduates during 2009-2010, than they did in 2008-2009. With fewer job opportunities available, many students are finding that grades may not be enough to secure the positions they seek, and are instead seeking new ways to gain experience that will give them a competitive edge, such as an internship overseas.

As a result, companies such as Intrax Internships Abroad have seen an increase in applications for summer internship opportunities in cities such as Barcelona, Paris, London, Tokyo, Madrid and Berlin.

Terry Cumes, Managing Director of Intrax Internships Abroad explains, ” Academic and corporate leaders agree that success in the economy of the future will require the ability to thrive in a global business environment. We set out to create a program that provides students with the practical experience of a quality professional internship, while also exposing them to an international immersion experience analogous to study abroad. ”

Past participants in the Intrax Internships Abroad program agree on the benefits of an international internship. Robbie Falconer, junior at the University of California-Berkeley, had this to say about his analyst experience at Morningstar Financial in Madrid, “My goal is to get into the investment banking industry, which is very competitive because there are so many sharp people from top schools trying to fill so few positions. International experience with the world’s leading provider of financial data is an advantage because it allows me to offer a unique perspective and skill set.”
