Discover ‘Silence in the City’ with Drop-in Silence

D

Is this the quietest place in the West End? Starting 11 September, you will be able to discover a free weekly Drop-in Silence every Friday evening. Close to Leicester Square Station, Drop-in Silence will provide an easy way to retreat from 21st century city living where the public can participate in shared silence and enjoy calm, tranquillity and reflection.

Drop-in Silence, a concept pop up, will launch 11 September and be open every Friday evening 5.30pm – 7.00pm until 18 December. Although in the Quaker Meeting House, there will be no religion or philosophy – just silence. This social experiment simply aims to help us get away from the noise pollution we all face and provide an opportunity to calm the mind. Visitors can drop in any time, stay for as long as they feel comfortable, and then return week after week as often as they like.

It will be a collaborative venture between those who, for different reasons, want to explore the benefits of making time for stillness. Set in a room built for silence, visitors will notice an instant change of pace, making it easier to appreciate the rare qualities of pure quiet – in contrast to the commotion of London and their busy lives.

Whether escaping the rush hour traffic, peacefully contemplating before the crazy night ahead, taking a break from Christmas shopping or just wanting to experience being offline, people can simply drop in, tune out and enjoy this unique event.

Drop-in Silence has an open door policy – it is completely free and open to all.
