A Quintessential English Day Out on 6 September 2015

Shere Hill Climb near Guildford takes place on 6th September. In only its third year the day has already become one for the diary of anyone interested in our motoring history and remains dedicated to raising funds for charities – having raised £23,000 so far!

The event celebrates an historic hill climb that originally took place close to here as far back as 1921 and is centred on Staple Lane, in the beautiful Surrey Hills. The lane is a public road but closed to all other traffic for the day.

The course runs from close to the junction of Staple Lane with the A246 to the summit of the hill with the paddock and showground located at the base of the hill, with panoramic views across the Surrey countryside, and London and the Wembley Arch can be seen in the distance. Cars start at 9.30am and finish at around 5.00pm.

Unsurprisingly, the hill climb is over-subscribed every year. More than 135 vintage, specialist and sports cars will be demonstrated – together with a vibrant spectator paddock ensuring lots of fun for the whole family and a great social day out, while giving motoring enthusiasts an opportunity to show their often priceless classic cars and drive up a challenging and unique course.

“More than 2,000 spectators come along to enjoy the fun and see cars from the very early days of motoring right up to modern exotics. Expect to see action from Ferraris, Bugattis and Lamborghinis to Porsches, Fiats and Bentleys – and maybe even a Morris Minor and a Citroen 2CV!” said Friday’s PR managing director Richard McCann.

Each vehicle completes the course – which is just under a mile – three times, ascending nearly 300 feet each time and tackling tricky corners. Straw bale chicanes are added to the course at various points to increase the difficulty.

Entry to the hill climb car park will only be from the A246 end of Staple Lane (GU4 7RL). There will be no access from the Shere end of Staple Lane.
