Zegrahm Expeditions’ eco cruise leader, Jack Grove, contributes to important report on the effects of climate change and overfishing in the Galapagos Islands, along with a book on the natural history and ecology of the region.

Seattle, WA, December 19, 2009 — Dr. Jack Grove, Zegrahm Expeditions’ cofounder and Galapagos eco cruise leader, recently contributed to a report that outlines how climate change, overfishing, and tourism have negatively impacted the Galapagos Islands’ delicate ecosystem. In just a few decades, 45 Galapagos species are thought to have already disappeared or are teetering on the verge of extinction. The report was originally published in the scientific journal, Global Change Biology, and has been picked up by BBC News and circulated by Metropolitan Touring in Quito, Ecuador, among other news sources. In addition to Jack’s work on this ground-breaking white paper, he also contributed to Tui De Roy’s recently published book, Galápagos: Preserving Darwin’s Legacy. This book is an authoritative, up-to-date survey from a variety of authors and researchers on the natural history, ecology and conservation of the Galapagos Islands.

Jack Grove leads travelers on every Galapagos eco cruise that Zegrahm Expeditions operates. A marine biologist and professional naturalist, Jack has spent much of the past two decades traveling on, and lecturing about, the world’s oceans. For seven years he lived in the Galapagos Islands, where he carried out extensive marine biological studies. In 1997 Stanford University Press published his comprehensive volume The Fishes of the Galapagos Islands, and he received his Ph.D. from Pacific Western University. Jack is an avid scuba diver, certified dive master, and dedicated conservationist.

Space is still available for anyone interested in traveling with Jack on a Galapagos eco cruise in June 2010. Trip and itinerary details can be found on Zegrahm Expeditions’ website at http://www.zeco.com.
