Developers face constant challenge of bringing improvements in products and applications to beat competition. Innovation and frequency of updates plays a major role in creating and sustaining brand image. Products must meet customer expectations of experience, preference, convenience, and above all security. Recently, Google released Chrome 12 Stable Channel for all supporting platforms. The latest version of Chrome browser comes with features such as hardware accelerated 3D Cascade Style Sheets (CSS), new safe browsing protection, improved screen reader support, and integrated Sync in settings. The browsing protection will alert users against downloading malicious files. Google will use its database of malicious sites to alert users. Some sites use Flash cookies to track user and store user information. Chrome 12 provides users with the option to delete Flash cookies. The new version facilitates launch of applications by name from the Omnibox, and warns Mac users on hitting Command-Q. The latest version does not comprise of Google Gears. The company has been releasing new versions of the Chrome browser at frequent intervals.

Google has also addressed 15 vulnerabilities in new Chrome version. Out of the 15 vulnerabilities, security professionals at Google have rated six each as high risk and medium risk, and three as low risk vulnerabilities. The high risk flaws include a use-after-free bug caused by integer issues in float handling, stale pointer issue in extension framework, use-after-free issue in image loader, and same issue bypass in v8, and Dom. Security professionals at Google have also addressed extension by-pass, and extension script injection issues, information leak, browser crash, and browser memory corruption issues.

Google has doled out over $9,970 as prize money to several security researchers, for reporting flaws under Chrome Vulnerability Reward Program. Security researcher Sergey Glazunov, who reported three vulnerabilities, was the major beneficiary. The prize money received by Glazunov also included an award of $3,133.7 for reporting same origin bypass in v8. The developer has been encouraging security professionals to pre-empt attackers in detecting vulnerabilities.

The developer earlier announced that Google applications will only support current and major earlier versions of web browsers Chrome, Internet Explorer (IE), Firefox, and Safari beginning August 1. Internet users must update their browsers to the latest version, to improve their browsing experience and securing their computer systems. Professionals qualified in IT masters degree may ensure regular adherence to security advisories and updates.

Developers must focus on constant innovation and improvement in security features. Online technology degree and security certification programs may enable IT professionals to develop more secured products, to combat emerging threats. Developers must also coordinate with Internet security firms, regulatory agencies and educational institutions to improve security awareness among Internet users. E-flyers, online computer degree programs, online tutorials, advertisements, and e-mail alerts may go a long way in improving cyber security practices.
