NAMI Nebraska (National Alliance on Mental Illness) announces the designation of Mary Thunker and Jen Genzler as co-WALK Managers for the NAMI 2013 Walk -Changing Minds One Step at a Time scheduled for June 22, 2013 at Elmwood Park.
The 2012 WALK with over 300 walkers held on June 9 at the Mid Town Turner Park raised $85,000 to support education, support and advocacy services being provided to persons with a mental illness and their families. Connection Recovery Support Groups and Family Support Groups are provided at no cost and provide ongoing support for persons working on recovery. Peer to Peer, Family to Family and BASICS Education programs are provided at no cost and assist persons in better understanding mental illness.
Mary Thunker and Jen Genzler facilitate a Family Support Group for parents/caregivers of children with a mental illness and teach the BASICS education program for parents. In Our Own Voice presentations can be requested by churches, organizations and agencies to provide the general public with a better understanding of mental illness.
