Master Class, EPS in Civil Engineering Applications
EPS, well known for its application as an economical and efficient insulation material, can be used effectively in civil engineering applications (CEA). Participants will gain a complete overview of the application of EPS in CEA.
Brussels, Belgium, September 07, 2010 — On November 16 and 17, 2010 EUMEPS will organise a Master Class on the application of EPS (Expanded Polystyrene Foam) in Civil Engineering Applications.
EPS, well known for its application as an economical and efficient insulation material, can be used effectively in civil engineering applications (CEA). During the two days of this conference the participants will gain a complete overview of the application of EPS in CEA. Technical experts will present the current state of the art for use of EPS in compliance with the most recent standards, engineers will detail how the relevant calculations are made and government representatives will explain the criteria they use to select EPS as a light weight fill material to create stable non-settling and low maintenance cost road constructions. A visit will be made to see EPS used in floating applications and understand how EPS can be part of the solution to adapt our environment to the inevitable consequences of climate change. Participants will also understand how, in seismic applications, EPS can limit the consequences of earthquake damage to buildings and bridges.
This Masterclass on Civil Engineering Applications will form a meeting place for all people interested in the possibilities of this relatively new and unexplored area of application for EPS.
About EUMEPS Construction
EUMEPS Construction is a European association of the European EPS insulation industry. EUMEPS membership represents over 90% of the manufacturing industry. The common interest between members is a belief that EPS is the most cost effective insulation material for building and construction. Properties like high insulation value, high compressive strength, both remaining constant over the whole lifetime of the product, the versatility and the fact that it is completely safe to work with, make it the ideal material in many applications. The qualities of lightweight, moisture resistant EPS are highly appreciated in European construction. EPS comprises about 35 per cent of the total thermal insulation market in Europe with over 55,000 people employed in the European EPS industry. The objective is for EPS to take its proper place in ensuring safe, comfortable and energy efficient buildings, whilst also contributing strongly to the mitigation of greenhouse gas emission. The role of EUMEPS is to ensure that awareness of the advantages of EPS is brought to a larger audience. This is achieved by information sharing to enable an informed dialogue with builders, architects, regulators and regulatory bodies, on a national and European level.
