A leading retailer of watches online this week celebrated its appointment as an authorised dealer for the leading watch brand J&T Windmills. Creative Watch Co is based in Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter and sells over thirty leading watch brands.
The appointment of Authorised Dealer status from this leading brand is recognition of the company’s excellent reputation and service and is one of a number of such awards from world recognised brand name watches.
J&T Windmills is one of the most individual watch brands with a long history and a reputation for excellence that has seen it become one of the most collectible of watch makers. Joseph Windmill was probably born before the end of 1640/1650; however his origins are unclear. During the earliest years of his clock making, he was based in St Martin’s Le Grand and in 1699 he was elected as the youngest Warden of the Company. Meanwhile his son Thomas had completed his apprenticeship and then worked as a journeyman, becoming free of the Clockmaker’s company in 1695/1696. Joseph was considered one of the finest clockmakers in late seventeenth century London, and produced a prolific number of lantern clocks of all sizes and qualities. His earliest known watch was created before 1680 and did not feature a balance spring; this is his rarest watch and is displayed in the BritishMuseum. The development of the sprung balance by Thomas Tompion turned the watch from an ornament to a functioning, accurate timepiece. The exact date of Joseph’s partnership with his son Thomas is unknown; however from the numbers of timepieces produced it would appear that the firm became even more prolific with the arrival of Thomas, especially in terms of watch making.
Over three hundred years later, the company is continuing to make outstanding watches. The J & T Windmills collection of classic gold and silver mechanical watches features a sterling silver pocket watch, five gentlemen’s silver wristwatches, one gentlemen’s 18ct gold wristwatch and one gentlemen’s 18ct rose gold wristwatch and two ladies silver wristwatches – all with articulated leather straps.
