Record Number of Cyclists Expected for 5th Annual Cup ‘n Cone Tour
RALEIGH, N.C. (July 1, 2009)—MS Events (www.mseventsnc.org), the volunteer organization coordinating several Triangle-area bike and foot races, announces today that the 5th annual Cup ‘n Cone Tour is being held on July 25, 2009. Proceeds from the race, featuring ice cream as motivation, benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society of Eastern North Carolina.
Participants can register online at www.mseventsnc.org. The registration fee until July 23 is $30 and increases to $35 on race day. The first 500 registered cyclists receive a free Cup ‘n Cone cyclist wallet.
“The excitement around this year’s Cup ‘n Cone Tour is amazing,” says Bruce Bokish, MS Events director. “We look to build upon the momentum from the 2008 event, where 514 cyclists helped raise nearly $11,000.”
The Cup ‘n Cone Tour offers participants riding distances of 30, 48, and 67 miles between Cary and Carrboro, N.C. The race begins at Goodberry’s Frozen Custard on Davis Drive in Cary. Check-in for cyclists is from 6:30 a.m. to 7:20 a.m., and the ride begins at 7:30 a.m. The 30-mile tour includes one rest stop and gentle roads to Jordan Lake and back. The 48-mile tour has three rest stops and follows a scenic route. The 67-mile tour includes five rest stops and 2,750 feet of climbing. On the 48- and 67-mile routes, cyclists will climb the infamous Col d’ Lystra and finish with a gentle 20-miles. The Cup ‘n Cone Tour’s 67-mile route is arguably the toughest charity ride of this distance in the Triangle.
At each rest stop, cyclists can enjoy a variety of refreshments. On the 48- and 67-mile routes, cyclists are treated to free ice cream from Maple View Farm Dairy Store in Orange County. All three tours end at Goodberry’s, where all participants will enjoy free frozen custard upon finishing.
