Surf Nonprofit Hosts Annual Poolparty on Rooftop in Manhattan
On Aug 12th, 2010, surf nonprofit WAVES for Development (WAVES) will be hosting a Rooftop Pool Party & Fundraiser in New York City at 2 Cooper, a new building.
San Diego, CA, August 05, 2010 — Join filmmakers, philanthropists, environmentalists and surfers at 2 Cooper (E4th & Bowery) for an evening of refreshing fun as the sun sets on the rooftop pool. Fantastic prizes will be raffled off from generous sponsors, including a wet/dry surf backpack full of goodies from the Quiksilver Foundation, original art from Joe Hodnicki and, apparel from Patagonia, Olasul, a Global Surf Industries surfboard custom painted by Nick Lynn, and Hive natural surf wax to put on it! All proceeds will benefit WAVES’ Surf Voluntourism and Educational Surf programs in Peru. The fundraising goal, a passenger van, will ensure safe, reliable transportation for the youth in educational programs is fundraising goal so programs reach neighboring towns.
WAVES was created to link passion with purpose; it aims to bridge the educational and economic gap between wealthy surfers and members of rural coastal communities, especially youth. In the past year, staff and volunteers have helped over 200 residents in Lobitos, Peru, and the surrounding area through the surf voluntourism programs. The organization hopes to reach many more this year, and more help is needed!
Event VIP attendees will be treated to an exclusive director’s screening of CAPTURE: A WAVES Documentary. VIP Tickets are $75, and include the screening, the pool party, hors d’oeurves, open wine tasting provided by New York winery Vineyard 48 and beer, lovingly provided by Brooklyn Brewery, and one raffle ticket.
Regular admission ($40 presale) includes the pool party and three hours of wine and beer. Refreshments provided compliments of popchips and KIND snacks.
