Call centers were once the buzz of the business world; but like all things new, their shine gradually faded away. There are newer things happening in the business world like social media and emerging business technologies, but call centers still play a strategic role in low-cost, highly effective product marketing (telemarketing) for generating new business in a short time. Call centers are easy to set up, and are usually deployed overseas in countries that provide comparative cost advantage with cheap, young labor that meets the basic requirements including effective (mainly English) communication skills. India and Brazil are good examples. A low cost initiative, all that is required to set up a call center are the phone system networks (usually consisting of a VoIP-powered LAN or WAN for larger call centers), compatible VoIP phone systems and business phones, data servers and storage, headsets and accessories, VoIP softphones e.g. Skype/TalkSwitch, backup power units, security solutions (for PCs and Servers), basic administrative utilities and the right people.

Once setup and staffed, call centers can start operating telemarketing services. Telemarketing is basically calling people with offers including new products and services that they may be interested in. These people would have signed up to receive information about new products, services, etc., so it is a completely legitimate operation. There is usually a high acceptance rate on offers made by telemarketing, especially during the holiday season or special days like Valentine’s, Black Friday and Halloween.

“Call centers present amazing business opportunities through telemarketing. Calling people with offers they signed up for is a legitimate business, and a very lucrative one during peak periods such as holidays,” says a report collaborator.
