CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (September 30, 2009)—The Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle (www.thecot.org) opens its 27th season with a performance on Sunday, October 4, 2009. The 3 p.m. concert will be held at the Carolina Theatre in Durham and feature a guest performance by award-winning pianist Chu-Fang Huang.
A native of China, Huang is the winner of the 2005 Cleveland International Piano Competition and the 2006 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, as well as a finalist in the 2005 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Her dynamic orchestral and recital performances have garnered energetic responses from audiences and critics throughout the world.
“Chu-Fang brings astonishing skill and versatility to her performances,” says Lorenzo Muti, artistic director and conductor of The Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle. “She pours her soul into each piece, and we are eager to have her perform with us.”
Huang will be performing Camille Saint-Saëns’ “Piano Concerto No. 2 in G Minor, op. 32.” The orchestra will also be performing Felix Mendelssohn’s “The Fair Melusine Overture, op. 32” and Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 8 in F Major, op. 93.”
The 2009-2010 season will continue with the following performances:
• November 15, 2009 – All-Strings Concert – works by composers Rossini, Wiren, Barber and Bartok
• January 17, 2010 – Guest pianist Benjamin Moser – works by composers Wolf, Chopin, Sibelius and Kodaly
• March 14, 2010 – Ballet Meets Orchestra – works by composers Johnson, Copland and Roussel
• May 16, 2010 – All-European Program – works by composers Rossini, Schubert and Mozart
