FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TULUM, Mayan Riviera (Nov. 29, 2007) – Tulum, the last rustic stretch of the Mayan Riviera found 1.5 hours south of Cancun, is known for a more laidback and gentle, bohemian energy than the frenetic tourist towns of Playa del Carmen and Cancun. Beachfront ruins project soothing tranquility, and beachside hotels promote total body wellness, holistic therapies and yoga sessions rather than tequila shooters and all-night parties.

La Zebra, Tulum’s hippest new beach cantina and tequila bar, taps into this softer vibe starting with the women who run the show. Together they infuse the jungle-chic property with a genuine warmth and passion for
Mexico that extends from their congenial welcome to their home cooking and love of tequila!

Manager Heather Froeming, a Southern California beach girl at heart, and has spent the last decade managing properties south of
Cancun. The matriarch of La Zebra’s staff is Lina Avila, who hails from
Mexico City and runs the cantina with the flair of a modern day Earth Mother. And proving that family is number one at La Zebra, Lina’s sisters have each taken various roles in helping to run the hotel: Laura manages the events and activities at La Zebra, while Miriam runs the restaurant and bar in the mornings.

“La Zebra has a very relaxed and informal atmosphere. You feel like you’re at home with family when you’re here. So it makes perfect sense to have the
Avila sisters on staff. The positive energy and warmth of La Zebra stems from this happy family. Even Orlando, Lina’s younger brother works at La Zebra getting all our articitc projects done. It is this togetherness that makes La Zebra really tick,” explains Froeming.

The strong, feminine character extends to the beach hotel’s interior décor, where carved wooden statues of curvy goddesses accentuate the bar and cantina, and paintings of sultry women adorn the nine renovated cabana walls. “I wanted to pay tribute to the strength of the feminine spirit,” explains local artist Enrique Diaz. “The women I paint are full bodied, bold and real, and represent the often opposing and always complex characteristics of women. Soft and beautiful, while bold and enigmatic, all at once.”

LA ZEBRA TURNS UP THE HEAT WITH SIZZLING GRILL SPECIALSThe cantina at La Zebra serves up satisfying, home-cooked beach cuisine straight from the heart of
Mexico, with a special focus on fresh seafood and the aromatic, savory flavors of the charcoal grill.

Menu favorites include fresh squeezed lime ceviche, tender beer-marinated lamb slow cooked in banana leaves in a brick lined BBQ pit, home made shrimp tamales, and blackened fish tacos, all served with La Zebra’s five signature house salsas. For heartier appetites the cantina also serves Mexican classics: whole fish grilled with a little oil and lime juice, or juicy arrachera flank steak with a spicy BBQ sauce.

New on La Zebra’s cantina menu is the delectable fire-stone soup, an exciting dish that appeals to all the senses, as it cooks at the table right before your eyes. Fresh fish and shrimp are placed in a bowl and covered with chopped cilantro, tomato, onion, garlic, and Mexican herbs and spices, then smothered with a roasted tomato broth. The finishing touch is a red hot stone taken from the charcoal fire that is dropped into the bowl until the soup bubbles, and is served with piping hot, handmade and fired corn tortillas.
