In the “Trapped in the Closet” episode, the creators of South Park unabashedly poke fun at the Scientology religion and its famous follower Tom Cruise the episode was such a hit that it made it in the Top 10 TV Shows that changed the world.

Bangkok, Thailand, August 19, 2010 — Much as South Park is well-known for its cheeky parodies of touchy issues, the “Trapped in the Closet” yaoi episode that sparked a furore within the Scientology Church remains the most talked-about episode.

Besides millions of views and much discussion over the yaoi episode, “Trapped in the Closet” went on to earn itself a Primetime Emmy nomination in the Outstanding Animated Program (for Programming Less Than One Hour) category the following year. The San Francisco Chronicle lauded Stone and Parker for this brilliant hit, opining that they “probably hit their zenith when they made fun of Tom Cruise and Scientology”.

On to South Park’s 14th season, it remains to be seen if Stone and Parker will hit another gem like this anytime soon
