Following is a programme of “Natural Institute of Social change And Resource Generation” (NISARG) ngo Khurda, Orissa, India and partner of dev4india. It aims to help the underpriviledged and oppressed and improve their socio-economic and environmental conditions.

DWCRA Group for income Generation: 4 DWCRA groups were established in Khurda Block with the assistance of DRDA, Khurda. 80 women and members of DWCRA programme who initiated income generating activities for their family management were sanctioned an amount of Rs 7,00,000/- for different activities like floor packeting badi and papad making and ready made garment preparation. The programme is monitored and evaluated by the staffs of DRDA and NISARG on a quarterly basis. The programme has raised hopes among the nearby village women to establish a DWCRA group and raise income of their family.

To generate income among the poor women, NISARG started a mushroom training cum production unit at Gop. 30 women and girls have completed the training and started income of Rs. 1,000 – Rs 2,000/- per month. During their leisure time they work 4 to 5 hours a day at the training center.

NISARG started women education programme for farming women and illiterate. Through the total literacy campaign, 250 women are literate in 15 villages of Khurda district. They were supplied study material by the “Sakyara-a Samitee” of the District. A training programme was organised for the “Sakyarata Sena” Khurda District, by NISARG in February 2005 at town hall ,Khurda. The B.D.O. and Collector of the District inaugurated the training programme.

Celebration of International Women’s Day: The International Women’s Day was celebrated like every year at village Jaimangal of Banki Block.120 women and girls from nearby villages participated the camp and were informed about different women issues, and rights. A women’s rally was organised by the members on dowry, equal wages and women atrocities on18th November 2004. A debate competition was organised among the High School students on Women’s empowerment and Panchayati Raj.
