2010 Building Forecast – remodeling San Antonio

2

The long awaited building forecast was received at the Valero Building today. It started by first looking at last years’ numbers compared to forecast. Remodeling San Antonio and building last year struggled compared to years past. San Antonio is one of the few locations in the nation that did not have as bad a downturn as the rest of the country. We were forecasted to have 7000 building starts and ended up with 7132 starts. San Antonio actually had 8300 new home closing, thus bring down our inventory. Great Job! Next year they are forecasting that we should have 8000 new building starts. All in all, a great report that will hopefully come to fruition.

This good news should carry over to the remodeling San Antonio area as well. A lot of new educated people will be moving here this year due to BRAC, NSA, Caterpillar, etc. This should be a year of new hope with increased consumer confidence. One of the main reasons that many businesses have been relocating to San Antonio is due to the low energy cost. CPS has done a great job with nuclear energy on providing San Antonio with cheap, clean and affordable energy. This has brought companies like Microsoft and NSA to bring large network server operations to San Antonio.
