51% of IT managers consider flexibility as the most important advantage of remote collaboration

Linschoten, 7 September 2012 ? According to more than half (51 percent) of the IT managers, the main benefit of remote collaboration is the increasing flexibility of the organization. In addition, 32 percent of the managers consider the decrease in travel expenses as a great advantage and 31 percent indicate improvement in business performance. This is the result of a research conducted by Talk & Vision, specialist in the field of video communications and managed video services, in cooperation with Nyenrode Business University among CIOs and IT managers.

Furthermore, the results show that 57 percent of the participating organizations encourage the use of collaborative technology for remote collaboration, for example through training. With a fifth of the organizations, this is not done at all. It is, however, remarkable that the use of enterprise social media, such as Yammer or Socialcast, is not yet widely accepted. In only 33 percent of the organizations these media are encouraged; towards 43 percent where they are inhibited.

Joost Deckers, Managing Director of Talk & Vision, explains the results: “It is striking that still so few organizations consider enterprise social media as a tool for remote collaboration. Usually, technical solutions that are easily accessible are accepted more quickly by employees. Enterprise social media are a typical example of such a solution. For the success of a collaboration tool, it is necessary to ensure an optimal fit with the corporate culture. Only when employees have the tools that best suit their way of working together, they will actually make use of these tools.”
