Amway Opportunity Foundation celebrates Helen Keller Day with NAB – Department of Rehabilitation

Mumbai, 28th June 2011- “The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen nor even touched, but just felt in the heart”. These were the touching words of Helen Keller, who overcame her visual and hearing impairment to become an accomplished author, political activist and a lecturer. She is a role model to similar such people.

Celebrating the 131st Birth Anniversary of Helen Keller, Amway Opportunity Foundation (AOF) the Corporate Social Responsibility arm of Amway, made the day memorable for the visually challenged visually challenged students of NAB- Department of Rehabilitation, AOF’s partner under the National Project for the Blind and Project Sunrise by organizing a special communications skills and personality development workshop.

In today’s fast paced competitive world everyone need to hone their skills to be successful, be it personal or professional lives. This being true for our visually friends as well and hence AOF planned a special module by developing their skills sets to meet the challenging world. The workshop gave them a guidance on important aspects of communications like; types, medium, style & impact of communications, email & telephone etiquettes, listening skills, barriers in communications, attributes of effective communications, enhance positive thinking, behavior & conduct.

Mr. Achinta Banerjie, Vice President, Amway India (West) stated, “Helen Keller is a source of inspiration for all of us, her determination to fight against all the odds is a learning to all of us. Today’s celebration is more than giving tribute to her selfless work for the visually challenged people across the globe.”

It was in the month of September 2010 that AOF had instituted a computer center for visually challenged students of National Association for Blind to facilitate them to learn with technology.

Mrs. Asha Bhatia, Deputy Director of NAB- DOR said, “we are thankful to AOF for organizing such a wonderful workshop which will surely help our students in their future endeavors ”.

About Amway Opportunity Foundation (AOF) a registered non-profit organization looks after Amway India’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and has been actively associated with several projects dedicated towards child welfare across the country. One of the biggest challenges in education of visually impaired children is to make books available in Braille, text or audio described format so that students can read themselves. Under the National Project for the Blind, AOF with its partners AICB and NAB has ensured making available Braille textbooks to over 85,000 school-going visually challenged children in 15 states. Furthermore, AOF has successfully instituted Computer Centers and Vocational Training centers at 14 locations in India and opened one talking book library for visually challenged at Indore.
