ANAHEIM, Calif., (June 22, 2011)St. Catherine’s Academy, a Catholic school in Orange County, celebrated its graduation and June Drill on Friday, June 17. The Academy held a special Mass for students and families followed by the annual June Drill and Awards Ceremony. Regimental Commander, Justin Wang, made a closing speech to the class of 2011, who will continue their educations at a number of elite high schools in California and Mexico. Special congratulations to the St. Catherine’s graduates from Anaheim: Austin Agosta, Jordan Agosta, Cameron Crippen, Alexander Godoy, David Hoffman, and Joseph Schoolcraft.
Ethan Bender of Stanton received the Staff Sergeant Marc A. Arizmendez Memorial Award for Excellence. The award, provided by the Arizmendez family, recognizes a St. Catherine’s cadet who has shown excellence in all areas of the St. Catherine’s program and comes with a $500 scholarship. Arizmendez gave the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the U.S. Army in Afghanistan last July. He graduated from the Orange County Catholic school in 1994.
St. Catherine’s Academy, the first Catholic school in Orange County, founded in 1889 by the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose, is an independent Catholic school with a military tradition for boys in kindergarten through 8th grade. The school offers both day and boarding opportunities.
