Animator succeeds in Olympic Challenge

A

Talented Yorkshire (UK) -based animator Zane Whittingham took on his very own Olympic-inspired challenge to create as many short animated films as he could during the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Each animation has been inspired by an Olympic Event and showcases Zane’s unique style and quirky sense of humour.

Zane, from Fettle Animation made a grand total of 7 short animations in just two weeks.   The series, is entitled ?OLYMPIAD TWENTY 12?. These are The Javelin, The Shot Put, The 100 Metres, The Gymnast, The Long Jump, Diving and The High Jump.

Each film is around 20 seconds long and starts with the title sport and ends with an unexpected twist.

Each film brings to life ideas that Zane has been experimenting with in his sketchbook, and develops his surreal brand of humour.

Zane said, ‘This has been a big challenge for me as making animation can normally be quite slow, but this challenge has helped me to speed up my working processes.  I am now making animation in a few days that used to take several weeks to complete. I wanted to bring my animation to a wider audience through some playful visual gags. I’m a big sports fan, and have genuinely enjoyed watching the Olympics. I am feeling inspired by some of the athlete?s incredible success stories, it?s encouraged me to keep going and to push ahead with what I am trying to achieve.’

Fettle Producer, Kath Shackleton, continued, ‘As a new studio, this is a great way of developing and showcasing what we can do.  We really hope that people will enjoy our short animations and show their support via social media. We?ve been delighted by the response we have had so far to our animation.

We want to make people laugh, but also get people thinking and asking questions, and push the boundaries of what animation can achieve. People often think of animation being just for children, but we make animation for adults too.

We make lots of different types of animation which includes animated adverts, animated documentaries, music videos and even outdoor animated projections. This project has helped us to promote the kind of animation which is not always shown on mainstream television and cinema. ?
