Dallas, TX, November 11, 2010 — Author Bill Prickett has rolled out a completely revised website (www.BillPrickett.com) to highlight the release of his second novel, “The Mind Set on the Flesh,” due out in early 2011. The book will be available in paperback and e-book format. Coordinating with the website, a Facebook “Fan” page has also been launched to promote his new book and connect with readers.

“The site incorporates some of the material from my original one,” says Prickett. “But it’s expanded it to include plenty of resources on the hot-button topics in my books.”

In his writing, Prickett draws from an extensive ministry background in the strong, conservative religious culture of the deep south. He has a bachelor’s degree from a Southern Baptist-sponsored University, where he concentrated in religious studies and communications, with an emphasis on Biblical languages and a double minor in English and Psychology. In addition, his graduate training included advanced Biblical studies, Hebrew, church history and theology.

He spent seven years working in the youth ministry and 11 years as senior Pastor of a Southern Baptist Church in his hometown of Birmingham, Alabama. For four years, he also pastored a non-denominational start-up congregation in Fort Worth, Texas, with an active ministry of inclusion and reconciliation.

Prickett’s first novel, “Sow the Wind, Reap the Whirlwind,” was set in a large (fictional) Baptist Church in Birmingham during a turbulent period of racial strife in the mid-70s. The story dealt with the incredible bureaucracy and bigotry imbedded in the church organization, and the amount of energy exerted to maintain a stable status quo in the midst of a changing culture.

His new novel, “The Mind Set on the Flesh,” confronts the clash between hard-line religious beliefs and sexual orientation. It also delves into reparative programs that promise to “heal” the homosexual. And as one who struggled with his sexual orientation in a strict religious environment, Prickett is familiar with the work of these organizations; he served as executive director for an “ex-gay” ministry.

“I want this new site to be both informative and supportive,” says Prickett. “I hope it will be a resource for those who struggle with reconciling their sexual identity and their faith.”

In addition to promotional information about the author and his writings, the site will include materials on topics such as “The Bible and Homosexuality” and “The Damage and Danger of Ex-Gay Programs,” along with resources for gay Christians. There will also be links to helpful sites for those with questions around these issues. An expanded section of questions that have been asked about the author, the books and the controversial themes covered in his books has been added, along with never-before published short stories.

“I like the weathered look of the new site,” says Prickett. “To me, it’s reminiscent of an old library, which I hope encourages thoughtful research on these important subjects. Everything is not up yet, but there’s plenty of good content on a variety of subject, with more coming very soon. And the site will grow as I listen and respond to the questions and comments from the readers…and the critics. By combining my new site with my Facebook page, I’m looking to engage and interact.”

Though no longer in ministry, Bill Prickett is still a frequent speaker/teacher at churches and conferences, working for equality, diversity and inclusion, particularly in the religious community. He and his spouse live in a suburb of Dallas, Texas, the primary setting for the new novel. They are involved in an affirming, inclusive Baptist Church.
