California author, John Darling, would like to announce the creation of a new free service for all writer’s and visual artists.

He has issued the following statement about the new site:

“Being a writer, I am always on the lookout for new markets for my work. When I first began to write, I always kept a current version of The Writer’s Market on hand, but with the advent of the Internet, I discovered that it was easier to find markets using lists supplied by various groups. I really appreciate their efforts.

However, many of these lists are not maintained properly so they often show out of date information or just plain dead links; links to periodicals that no longer exist. When the links do work, in a cyber-sense, they usually took you to the “front page” of the magazine or the “front door” of the publisher’s web site. This left you with the task of sifting through the site to find the submissions or guidelines pages.

With my new site, The Ivory Tower (www.theivrytower.com), just one click on any of the over 500 the periodicals listed will take you directly to its submission guidelines page, no further effort is needed; it almost like being escorted directly to the editor’s desk. There is also a complete page of market listings for artists and photographers.

The name of the site is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the idea that some writer’s have about editors sitting in “Ivory Towers” while pronouncing judgment on their work.

In the future, I will be adding a monthly column highlighting one of the magazines or publishers on the list and I will also be launching The Ivory Tower e-zine (“your eclectic electric”)”
