New Auto Racing Site Encourages Heavy User Interaction for the Motorsports Community

Racejelly.com aims to give the online motorsports community a different kind of web experience when looking for auto racing, motorsports news and videos. Unlike traditional news or blog sites, Racejelly.com is what is known as a ‘bookmark’ or aggregator site, whereby users can submit excerpts of stories, videos and pictures from other sources on the internet. These bookmarks, or ‘links’ can then be ‘voted’ on by the site’s userbase and the more votes a story or link receives, the higher it will move up on the site’s webpages. The site also has a scoring system where the users can score points for completing different tasks, such as story submission, voting and commenting on stories.

Racejelly.com doesn’t just serve the online motorsports fan community. Content providers online such as news websites and blogs can benefit from referral traffic when they submit their content to the site. When a submission gets a high number of votes and moves to the main page of Racejelly.com, it can mean extra traffic for those web properties.

“We wanted to provide the online motorsports community with a little different experience for not only the users of our site, but the content providers as well,” said Kenneth Holland, Founder and CEO of Racejelly.com.

“By bringing in a lot of different motorsports content from around the web such as stories, videos and pictures, we can then let our userbase ‘sort out’ what they think is relevent content for the userbase of our site. The voting system we’ve implemented uses a ‘winner’ and ‘loser’ terminology so if a user likes a submission he/she can vote it a ‘winner’ and subsequently if user does not like a submission he/she can vote it a ‘loser’.”

“We also have created what we call ‘Racejelly.com Race Points’, said Holland. “Users score points for interacting with the different features of our site such as voting, commenting on stories and even voting on comments. We are still working on incentives and prizes for scoring based on the user’s actions and they will be rolled out in the near future along with other enhancements as well.”

Holland also indicated that Racejelly.com auto racing, motorsports news and videos will be integrating social features with sites like Facebook and Twitter and that they also looking at possibly integrating Facebook Connect with the site. Also in development are iPhone and Blackberry applications with realtime chat capability.
