KUKA Systems at EuroBLECH in Hanover

Automation in sheet metal working is an established segment for Augsburg-based automation specialists and systems engineers, KUKA Systems. The company supplies special machines, systems and solutions to cover all joining, assembly and handling requirements. The process technologies, which include numerous forms of welding, bonding, cutting and press automation, are constantly being refined to meet the needs of manufacturing industry. KUKA Systems will have its range of products and services for press automation, laser welding and cutting on show at the 21st “EuroBLECH” International Sheet Metal Working Technology Exhibition in Hanover.

Press automation and virtual commissioning:
The KUKA Team is introducing the KUKA Cobra, a further development in press automation functionality. With this new press-to-press robot, the gripper can be swivelled horizontally, delivering a greater clearance and improved flexibility in the press. The interference contour to the press tool is minimised by a combined linear axis with swivel drive. This is achieved by superimposing the movements of the axes while at the same time sharply reducing the masses being moved, ensuring linear, flexible component transport in freely programmable movement curves from press to press.
KUKA WaveLine is the next generation control for press synchronisation and was developed in collaboration with press manufacturer, Fagor Arrasate. The virtual commissioning with real time parameters provides offline simulation of the press line and allows values to be transferred into the system at a later time. The main advantage of this solution is a significant increase in the volume in robot-based automation

Standardised cellular concept for welding solutions:
KUKA Systems has designed its new modular system, KUKA flexibleCube, specifically for manufacturers taking their first steps in automation technology or for existing users requiring flexibility to expand their production capacity. Laser technology using the KUKA flexibleCube.laser and shielding gas technology using the KUKA flexibleCube.arc solution, as well as welding and cutting processes, offer a broad range of low-cost, standardised components, such as housings, safety features and positioning aids, providing the customer with a cost-effective and flexible basis on which to design production efficiently. At the show the company will also be introducing its configurator (website www.flexibleCube.com), which supports the modular design and expansion functionality of KUKA flexibleCube, allowing customers to assemble a partially automated production cell themselves customised to their own requirements.

Contract manufacturing / Job shop:
Job shop capacity has also been extended at Augsburg in recent weeks with the availability of a new RS300 friction welding machine for contract manufacturing, small batch production and product trials. And the Augsburg experts are also putting production capacities and facilities for laser welding and arc welding process technologies at the disposal of their customers, as well as their many years of expertise. The full range is available and on show to visitors and all who would like to find out more at Hanover.
