Orangeburg, SC December 22, 2009 200 girls, aged 2-17, who live at or below the poverty line will attend a screening of Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog” and receive tiaras on December 22, 2009 in Orangeburg, South Carolina thanks to BET (Black Entertainment Television) Networks. The event, “Tickets and Tiaras”, was created to celebrate Disney’s first African American princess but was almost cancelled after a sponsor withdrew without notice. The organization, Our Little Princesses, focuses on self esteem and character building for young women through training in music, arts and life skills.

“We strive to build a strong self image for our students and believe seeing Disney royalty, Princess Tiana, who looks like them, reinforces our objectives, “says Shaquana Cuttino, Our Little Princesses program executive director. “After our initial sponsor cancelled without notice or explanation, we were determined to not disappoint the children and reached out to our new Fairy Godparents at BET Networks! We contacted them on a Tuesday and by Friday they were sending the donation check! This means so much to the girls! Some of these children have never owned a pretty dress but this event will highlight our teaching – that they are all Our Little Princesses and now they’ll have the tiaras to prove it!”
