A recent study has revealed that British parents fork out a whopping £27,500 on their child before they are even three- with most of the money spent within the first year of the child being born.
Before their first birthday, £18,000 is spent on the precious youngsters, proving that babies are costing more than ever before.
The survey, titled ‘The Baby Budget 2009’ looked at a variation of spending costs, including, baby and maternity wear, toys and entertainment, childcare, furniture and food.
Launched by Gurgle.com, over 3,000 mothers and mothers-to-be took part in the survey, to discover that most of the money is spent before the child is even born.
The survey revealed that parents spend, on average, £4,000 on products for their new born, including £91.45 on clothes, and £71.79 on toys before they have even met their child.
Most of the money is spent on decorating the home with a nursery for the child to sleep and play in. Around £3,383 is spent on decorating and furnishing the nursery, and a further £605 on prams, buggies and car seats.
