Four acclaimed chefs and two talented sommeliers fuse their eclectic styles to create a colorful masterpiece of flavor for The Beyond the Border International Contemporary Art Fair San Diego event called “The Art of Wine and Food”. This is an exclusive dining opportunity for guests to enjoy a five-course meal featuring the unique styles of four acclaimed chefs from different regions on the West Coast from Baja to Napa.

San Diego, CA July 16, 2009 — Four acclaimed chefs and two talented sommeliers fuse their eclectic styles to create a colorful masterpiece of flavor for The Beyond the Border International Contemporary Art Fair San Diego event called “The Art of Wine and Food”. This is an exclusive dining opportunity for guests to enjoy a five-course meal featuring the unique styles of four acclaimed chefs from different regions on the West Coast from Baja to Napa. Each chef will create a course that will be paired with a wine from their region. This dinner will take place at Addison, the signature restaurant of The Grand Del Mar and Southern California’s only Mobil Five-Star and AAA Five Diamond dining venue. Executive Chef William Bradley will host three visiting chefs. The dinner is scheduled for Thursday, September 3, 2009 from 7pm to 9pm. Chef William Bradley, Addison at The Grand Del Mar (San Diego, CA)
Acclaimed Chef William Bradley’s artisanal approach to cooking, combines local ingredients with contemporary French influences. Previously Bradley was executive chef at the critically acclaimed Vu restaurant at the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort & Spa. During his tenure there, he was named a candidate for the coveted James Beard “Rising Star Chef” award for three consecutive years, as well as being lauded as a “Rising Star Chef for 2006” by the Arizona Republic.

Chef Angela Tamura, ZuZu (Napa, CA)
Tamura insist on using only fresh, seasonal, locally grown, organic ingredients when creating her uniquely Californian versions of tapas as well as incorporating taste elements from Central and South America. Last year, three Napa Valley chefs cooked up a storm at the Beard House as part of a wine-related program sponsored by Napa Valley Vintners, including Angela Tamura, chef/partner at Napa’s ZuZu.

Chef Javier Placensia, Romesco in Bonita, CA and Villa Saverios, Casa Plascencia, and Giuseppis in Baja (Baja/Valle de Guadalupe, Mexico)
Placensia fuses Mediterranean with Spanish and Italian Foods. Gourmet Magazine-March 2007 on the left coast, mentioned Placensia as the most exciting new food that was being served south of the border. Plascencia attended the Culinary School in San Diego and took courses at the Culinary Institute of America in the Napa Valley, and worked for several US Restaurants and hotel chains, before opening his own restaurant in Baja.

Chef Wolfgang Gussmack, 3 Square (Venice, CA)
Gussmack prepares Austrian comfort foods with a contemporary twist. Born to a restaurateur family in Austria, he started at a young age. Wolfgang trained in many distinguished restaurants in France, Germany, Italy and Austria including Jahlhof: Austria, Peck Restaurant: Milan, Due Leoni: Venice and I Golosi: Paris. While in Paris Wolfgang was recognized by Figaro Madame Magazine as a “Rising Young Chef”. Wolfgang attended both L’Academie du Vin François in Paris and Wilfi in Austria. Wolfgang is also a certified sommelier in both France and Austria. Wolfgang met Hans Rockenwagner in 2002 and opened 3 Square Café and Bakery in Venice as partners.

Guest Sommelier/ Chris Blanchard, Chappellet, (Napa, CA)
Chris Blanchard is the Director of Wine Education for Chappellet Winery. He was most recently the Wine Director and Sommelier for REDD Restaurant, a Michelin-starred restaurant located in the Napa Valley where San Francisco magazine named Chris as the “Critic’s Choice Best Wine Director” in the August 2006 Restaurant Issue naming him as one of the “4 Stars” in the San Francisco Bay Area food scene. Forbes magazine featured his wine list at REDD as one of the “Top Wine Lists in the World”. Food & Wine magazine has also featured his wine pairings at REDD, and has profiled his career calling him a “Star Sommelier” in the April 2007 issue. He was named Master Sommelier in early 2008 after passing the difficult service, theory and blind tasting sections, to become one of less than 150 Master Sommeliers in the world.

Advanced Sommelier / Jesse Rodriquez, Addison, The Grand Del Mar (San Diego, CA)
Jesse Rodriguez, one of Wine & Spirits “Best New Sommeliers” in 2007, presides over Addison and The Grand Del Mar’s 32,000-bottle inventory. His meticulously chosen collection of stellar wines has been highly lauded accruing accolades, such as a Wine Hospitality Award from the 10th Annual Santé Magazine Restaurant Awards and one of seven new winning wine lists in 2007 from Food & Wine magazine. Prior to joining the resort, Rodriguez was the head sommelier at the venerable French Laundry in Napa, CA, helping the restaurant garner a Three Michelin Star rating.

Event Overview:
San Diego’s first Beyond the Border International Contemporary Art Fair (BTB), taking place at the luxurious Grand Del Mar Resort in Del Mar, California on September 2-4, 2009, is a three-day contemporary art fair that will include national and international galleries featuring over 500 juried works by established and emerging contemporary artists from all over the world, exhibiting in The Grand Del Mar’s expansive ballroom accompanied by numerous luxury exhibitors, food and wine events, and curated art installations. The event will showcase over $4 million in artwork coupled with sponsors such as Maserati, Modern Luxury Media, Qualcomm, Christie’s, The American Institute of Wine and Food, The California Bipolar Foundation, Lugano Diamonds, and many others.

A large-scale high-tech digital installation of this project will be featured at the fair. The works will be published in Qualcomm’s global marketing materials, and will also travel around the world to requested installation venues and be posted to the Web.
