Bormioli Rocco’s green soul: when plastic is environmentally friendly

B

The Plastics Division pays the greatest attention to sustainable development and the defence of the environment. Recyclable materials, bioplastics and biodegradable plastics bear witness to Bormioli Rocco’s green commitment.
Out of respect for end consumers who are increasingly aware of the need to defend the planet, the Plastics Division offers plastic packaging for cosmetics and other sectors, made from ecologically sustainable materials.

One such material is 100% POST CONSUMPTION recycled PET. This polymer from the polyester family is subjected to rigorous cleaning activities – manual, physical, visual and chemical – in order to ensure its purity. Cosmetics bottles made from this material are as transparent as those produced using virgin PET.

Other important results can be seen on the biodegradable resins front, such as PLA. This is a polylactide acid derived from maize corn, which is used for making plastic containers and packaging for food. Like PET, PLA has excellent transparency and is manufactured using the Injection Stretch Blow Moulding technique, which produces thin but resistant plastic.

Another environmentally friendly material has been developed from the collaboration between Bormioli Rocco and one its suppliers: PE GREEN is green in name and in fact, being composed of 100% renewable materials. It has all the same characteristics as traditional PE: highly effective as a barrier against water or humidity, resistant to knocks, and particularly suitable for use with dense colouring agents. Plus being recyclable and causing limited carbon dioxide emissions during its manufacture.

Bioplastics and recycled or biodegradable materials are increasingly in demand by companies who want to use low environmental impact packaging and to link their products to ecological values and protection of natural resources.

Bormioli Rocco is following the path of research and experimentation towards a future that is increasingly bio… and bioplastic!
