Building Hand and Eye Coordination While Enjoying Model Airplane Hobby

Remote controlled airplane navigation is a trendy hobby that is growing worldwide. This pastime is very exciting and has been proven by medical specialist to promote enhanced hand and eye coordination. Pediatric physicians have noted that hand and eye coordination is paramount in proper childhood development for transitioning into vibrant adolescents. The ability to produce precision tasks involving effortless use of sense organs with minimal brain activity can be accomplished while engaging in fun activities.

When a child, youth, or even an adult performs his or her first aerial maneuvers with a hobby aircraft, there is a requirement of visualizing every movement of the remote controlled airplane while at the same time making well-calculated adjustments on the flight controller toggle switches. These abilities are challenging to master and require great skill to achieve success. Piloting a hobby aircraft from the sideline view seems to be an easy function, but once one?s unique individual physical capabilities is put to the test, the truth of superior hand and eye coordination skills will be found out. Proper speed, pitch, and roll are primary factors during takeoff, in flight maneuvers, and also preparing for appropriate landings.

I have learned from personal experience of attending Army Aerial Observer Flight School at Fort Rucker Alabama that one of the most difficult abilities to perform is learning to hover a helicopter. After several weeks of tedious classroom instruction learning all the parts of a helicopter and its flight controls, I was finally taken on my virgin flight with my instructor pilot. After getting clearance from the flight tower and taking off from the airfield, our aircraft was quickly high up in airspace away from all other helicopters. I heard the words ?you have the controls? ring out from my copilot. While holding the cyclic with my right dominant hand, the collective with my left hand, and both feet on the pedals, with the help of my instructor I began to learn to fly a helicopter. Eventually I was able to hover, takeoff, perform flight patterns, fly at night, and land. This required articulated hand and eye coordination that soon became second nature.

Just like actually flying an aircraft, remote controlled airplane flights require advanced hand and eye coordination skills. One difference is that the model airplane flights are hobbies that can be experienced by anyone desiring to obtain a pilot?s aerial navigational experience while taking pleasure in some good old quality fun with friends and family.

Airplane hobby enthusiasts have developed local city clubs that are affiliated with the Academy of Model Aeronautics also known as AMA. The AMA is located at 5161 East Memorial Drive, Muncie IN 47302. Take it upon yourself to improve your child?s as well as your physical motor skills while enjoying an exciting hobby during your leisure time.
