Chicago Flooding is Going to Get Worse This Winter Says a Chicago Plumber

Basement flooding will be on the rise, literally this winter due to aging backflow valves, milder temperatures and record snowfall which was predicted earlier this year.

Chicago, IL, October 31, 2011 — In recent news Chicago area was warned of heavier snowfall and blistery cold topping last year’s record setting snow fall. Due to El Nina’s expected shift, weather throughout the Midwest will create a snowball effect when it comes to basement flooding damage. Drain king Chicago plumbing services reports they expect more basements to flood in the Chicago area this winter and have already stocked up on backflow values, a part need to divert storm sewer water from entering your home’s basement.

In earlier times home sewers were not equipped with backflow valve which allowed storm sewerage to freely flow into homes and businesses basements causing thousands of dollars of damage and not to mention health risks associated with mold and diseases. In the later 50’s the city of Chicago made mandatory that every new homes was equipped with backflow values located near the homes outlet into the city’s underground storm sewage system.

Since 2000 there has been a rise in backflow values failing to protect homes from fast rising sewer waters like in the spring storm of 2009 were 50 thousand homes were flooded when the City of Chicago had to reverse their storm flow to keep up with overnight torrential downfall.

In a interview with Drain Kings president Bob Dulin we were able to learn just how the predicted extreme winter will affect the city’s storm sewerage system. Bob said “ when winters aren’t very cold and snow melts the storms sewers stop free flowing , creating a backup which will lead to backflow valve failure” Bob also included that these are isolated flooding and in his 30 years of being a plumber Chicago I have seen it all. Now Mr. Dulin thinks that what makes this story interesting is that flooding will occur in the middle of the winter months and not spring were flooding would be more expected.
