Travelers departing from Houston Hobby Airport are advised to take extra precautions when planning their journey. This is due to airport construction work that has recently commenced and is due to last for around a year. The aim of this HOU Airport work is to upgrade one of the main airport roads.

Houston, Texas, US, October 31, 2011 — The work is due to close the vehicle entry ramp used by most departing passengers. An impact of this will be to affect is airport parking: HOU Airport drop-offs are being re-routed for everyone apart from disabled passengers and the original ramp is being re-routed for the duration of the work to an attached parking garage. This means that the second level of this garage in particular is likely to see an increased volume of traffic.

Mario Diaz, Director of HAS said: “This project returns our main entrance to opening day fresh and ensures that the investment will allow Houston to welcome millions of new passengers for decades to come,” said Mario Diaz, Director of the Houston Airport System. The development is the start of a wider project aimed at improving the customer experience at the airport.

Some alterations are also being made to curbside check-in and passengers will have to gain access to the terminal by using a crosswalk.

The Houston Airport System has given some advice for getting in and around Hobby and these instructions ca be found at the fly2houston.com website. The Houston Airport System has also released an instructional video.

For the duration of this work at Houston Hobby Airport, it will be a good idea for travelers to leave extra time to make sure they are able to catch their flight without problems. For those passengers worried about the impact of the work on vehicle access and airport parking, there are other parking options for Hobby. There are a number of off-airport lots that offer a free shuttle service to get travelers to the airport for their flight, and spaces can be reserved online before traveling so you don’t need to worry about locating a space on the day.
