DNA Research Accelerated by New Alignment Software

D

Today GENALICE will present the findings of its latest product prototype at the European Conference on Computational Biology (ECCB12). In a direct comparison with three of the current standards, the new software tool of GENALICE performs DNA alignment much faster and more accurately. A breakthrough, as this makes research into DNA diseases, such as cancer, faster, better and cheaper.

Complete DNA of patients increasingly mapped

So-called sequencers can digitize the entire DNA of a patient. These machines read as it were, the complete DNA of a patient in millions of short pieces. Then, with the aid of clever software, these (puzzle) pieces are put in the right place. This gives researchers a complete picture of the DNA of a patient. Especially for complex DNA diseases such as cancer, this includes a wealth of information to better diagnose and treat individual patients.

Developments sequencers and alignment tools not in sync

The existing software solutions to perform alignment, cannot keep up the acceleration curve of the new generation sequencers. The novel software of GENALICE is based on a completely new alignment algorithm, which makes this process much faster and more accurate than the current standards such as BOWTIE, BOWTIE2 and BWA.

GENALICE has already developed a breakthrough software solution for processing, integration and correlation of biomedical big data. Bert Reijmerink, CEO of GENALICE; “We are an IT company par excellence, and approach the biomedical big data challenges from a completely new angle. Our first product has already proved that this can result in groundbreaking software solutions. With the addition of this new product, we once again show the world that we are capable of delivering great improvements in this area. We expect to bring our new alignment solution to the market before the end of the year. “
