• 1 in 6 like the thought of an illicit affair, 1 in 20 have had one
• North West and Midlands most common locations for service station flings
• 6 in 10 think prices are too high, 2 in 10 think toilets are not clean enough
• 53% state they’d spend more money when accompanied by kids

7 July 2009 – British drivers believe that service stations offer poor value for money and dirty toilets but don’t rule them out as destinations for illicit extramarital affairs – so says a new survey from top website Carrentals.co.uk. The survey showed that 1 out of 6 drivers would like to have an illicit affair at service stations but that 1 out of 20 have already had one.

Carrentals.co.uk is the award-winning car hire website and it has polled over 2,300 UK drivers only to find that food and drink are too expensive and that many people believe toilets are too dirty in service stations. However, lots of drivers think that service stations are great places to carry on with their illicit encounters.

The most used locations for illicit relationships were shown to be the North West and Midlands followed by London and the South East. The age bracket most likely to indulge in these practices is 36 to 45 years old.

Gareth Robinson, managing director of car hire specialist Carrentals.co.uk, said: “Overpricing and cleanliness weren’t perhaps too surprising to find at the top of people’s complaints, but it was a bit of a shock to find that many people use the places as venues for affairs.”

60% of respondents said that service stations need to reduce their prices on food, drinks, CDs, medical supplies and so on while 20% believe that toilets are not clean enough.

In excess of 50% of people say that they spend somewhere between £26 and £50 on a visit to a services, while they would spend more if they had their children with them.

Gareth Robinson concluded: “With lots of people saving money and taking their vacations in the UK this year they can save further by taking their food and drink and so on with them from home.”
