Dubai, United Arab Emirates, May 28, 2009: Emirates Computers sponsored the first edition of BarCamp UAE, a unique gathering providing an open and interactive platform for people to share and learn in a relaxed atmosphere. The event was held on Saturday, May 9, 2009 at Dubai Internet City, Bldg 3, Thuraya Hall. BarCamp UAE was a volunteer organized, not-for-profit, open learning event described as a ‘place where like-minds come together to learn and share for the mutual benefit of all involved.’
Speaking on the participation, Mr.Hani Harik, President of Emirates Computers said, “We are pleased to have sponsored the very first BarCamp gathering in the UAE. Open, unbiased discussions often facilitate the generation and evolution of exciting new ideas. In an easy, non-formal setting such a BarCamp, these discussions can help unleash the potential of learning through sharing. BarCamp UAE follows an exciting tradition taking hold worldwide, with thousands of people of diverse backgrounds congregating at BarCamps hosted in cities the world over on a regular basis, with the single goal of driving learning and knowledge-share forward without the shackles of convention that grip the corporate world in this day and age. At BarCamp UAE, there was no set range of topics or theme to constrain the discussion, with the agenda bring driven by the participants themselves. Unlike conventional seminars, BarCamp events enable direct connection and interaction of presenters and their audience. Participants could initiate a topic with a brief presentation and all participants were expected to join in the discussion with their thoughts and opinions. Cutting-edge digital technology/media, in the form of live online video transmission, blogging and twittering, allowed people outside UAE to join in the sessions as well.
