Old fashioned tents are in again

O

Old and new style tents together

Teepee tents and Yurts have a very long history and are ingrained in certain cultures , here we look at the old and the new

Teepee tents have always held some sort of fascination with me, from the time that i was just a little kid. I would play cowboys and Indians with my buddies. My dad had bought me a tiny teepee tent, nothing at all fancy I might add, just big enough for two people to sit inside, still it was in fact awesome. All of us wanted to be Indians and so have a chance in the tent.

Well that was a long time ago and today I am somewhat older, I still have a love of teepees as well as camping, I have been on a number of vacations and festivals using a teepee . They still and will continually hold a fascination with me. I believe that this came about from all of the camping that i did, when I was much younger (about 16 ) I would go camping a great deal. I spent my youth in a country in which great climatic conditions was abundant (it still is )

I went camping at least once a month over the weekend then when it was summer break i was in the bush for almost all the time. I live in the UK right now and its a different life. I notice young people hanging around on street corners and it tends to make me a little sad, when I was what their age is I’d been already driving motorboats and vehicles, I was going out to camping areas alone along with my friends.

I built a teepee with my buddies, we created the poles our selfs and my mother produced the covering with canvas we made it from a book which I found in the small school local library, it took me and my buddies 30 days to make it, Every single weekend we would meet up and work on the poles, while my mother made the covering. it wasn’t quite waterproof however that was ok we’d built it!

The tent is already long since gone, only a recollection, I have actually lost touch with the buddies that I knew growing up like me they also have relocated to different parts of the world, settled down and also have got families I am sure . It is really not the tent that’s significant here. It really is the point that we built it our selves, it was that started my own very long quest to exactly where I’m now, it educated me to be self-sufficient, to have courage and ambition and most importantly above all it trained me in the power of having aspirations.

Teepee tents remain with me no , I have not made one for a long time, I rent them now when I would like to go camping out. they still make me have the same as I did those years ago. While I ‘m camping out I am an adventurer, a traveller plus a seeker of fun and lost treasure. Every one of the worries of the world are no longer and I am at peace together with nature. I have a tiny little girl right now and I hope that one day soon I will take her camping out, we will hire a teepee and go on an outing – I hope that it will teach her the same things that it taught me.
