Football Pitch Construction at Eastbourne Borough FC

Blue Square Premier side Eastbourne Borough team up with Grassform.

The south coast town of Eastbourne boasts a side capable of promotion to the football league in the shape of Eastbourne Borough. If this season goes to plan, “The Sports” as the club is known, will aim to retain their position in the league and part of this will no doubt come down to their new pitch, recently installed by sportsfield contractors Grassform Ltd. The Essex based company was present at the club’s Priory Lane ground during May and June 2008 to remove the existing pitch surface, install a full drainage system and then re-seed to give a fully playable surface ready for the new season.

Len Smith, chairman of Eastbourne Borough (which is part of Langney Sports Club) says the club had big problems with their marshland soil based pitch during 2006. “Exceptionally bad weather in the 2006/2007 season led us to have one month without games being playable. We were concerned that it wasn’t draining correctly and we had plans drawn up with an aim to carry out this work in 2007. However, we had Grassform come in during May 2008 to start the process and they have carried out their work with minimal disruption.” Len indicates that promotion to the Blue Square Premier put pressure on the club to reduce its call offs for games and therefore having a well drained pitch was vital. So far into the season, the club are delighted with the performance of their new surface which has received much attention.

Client Testimonial
Groundsman Robbie Britcher and his assistant Jason Sarna are responsible for the pitch at Priory Lane. By following Grassform’s instructions on how to tend their new surface, Jason says that the progress of the pitch has been amazing and its roots are structuring very well. Regular fertiliser application and irrigation has given the pitch a great start given that it was seeded in June and is now fully playable. Grassform were also asked to build an identical area outside of the 4,500 capacity ground for the club’s youth setup, and it is hoped that this will aid in the development of the future stars of Eastbourne Borough’s 1st team.
