Game On Physical Therapy Now Offering a New and Innovative Technique: Trigger Point Dry Needling

G

TDN is an Intramuscular treatment modality meant to target painful or “knots” located within the muscle belly.  The treatment consists of using very fine acupuncture needles to insert into the trigger point causing it to shut down and release.  Trigger points are small bundles of muscle fibers that stay contracted and can cause significant pain, limitations in function, mobility issues and referred pain.  By inserting the needle into the trigger point, a quick twitch or contraction happens which releases the trigger point and allows muscle tissue to return to its normal length.

TDN is based off western medicine, human anatomy and biomechanics.  This technique is not to be confused with acupuncture.  Acupucture is based off energy healing and is not to be confused with TDN.

Many states allow Physical Therapists to perform TDN and the NJ State Board of Physical Therapists has stated Intramuscular Therapy using TDN is in the scope of practice.  It is imperative that you seek out a Physical Therapist who is properly trained in this technique.

TDN treats the muscle to increase circulation, increase mobility, improve function and decrease pain.  A proper evaluation and a proper assessment must be done and when used properly, TDN can have immediate results.

“Game On Physical Therapy has adopdted TDN because we strive to be the best for our patients”, says Dr. Rick Daigle, PT, DPT, Owner and Clinical Director at Game On PT.  “I’ve seen amazing results, but we need to remember that this is a tool we use in combination with other treatments.”

TDN can be used for many diagnoses and impairments including but not limited to the following:

– Headaches
– Shoulder Pain
– Lower Back Pain
– Cervical Pain
– “Sciatica”
– Rotator Cuff Syndrome
– Shoulder Impingement
– Golfers/Tennis Elbow
– Pirformis Syndrome
– Achilles Tendonitis

It is important to know and understand the risks and benefits of TDN.  To find out more information and to schedule an appointment to see if you are a candidate please visit www.gameonpt.com or call 201-445-8600.
