LOCAL VA. RESIDENT DESIGNS CLUBS FOR PGA TOUR PLAYERS
Now Sets His Sites On Bringing Amateur Golf Tour to Tidewater VA. Area.

At the age of 22 and putting on the 18th green at a local golf course, Adam Beach’s golf club design career got its start. Since then, Beach’s designs have been played by some of the biggest and best players on the PGA Tour. He has also consulted on numerous designs you might have seen winning tournaments like the Masters or being played in the Ryder’s Cup. Tiger Woods even owns a putter he designed in memory of the late Payne Stewart. After selling a successful golf venture in 2007 he now sets his sites on bringing an Amateur Golf Tour to Tidewater, VA.

From a young age, Beach had watched his father run a successful business of his own so he made sure to take mental notes along the way. “As a kid I was always thinking up business ideas and my dad was always shooting them down. It was always encouraging remarks though, so it kept my wheels turning.” says Beach. The idea he had on the green that day 10 years ago was to start an Internet golf pro shop. Sounds simple now, but in 1998 the web was just in its infancy and hundreds of great ideas became part of the legendary Dot-Com bust. But Beach was more then determined to make his idea thrive. He went out the next day and bought his first computer. Then two weeks later flew to Orlando to the biggest golf show in the world, the PGA Show. At the show he was given a book that he still has today to remind him where it all started. This book contained all the contact names for every company that was a part of the show. Beach said, “I could not wait to get back from the show, as soon as I walked in the door I started calling. I called over 1000 companies and told them that I wanted their business to be a part of my Internet pro shop. Within a couple months all the big golf companies were on board.” Trying to find a niche a couple years into his venture he started a golf club component business that ran side by side with the original site. And this is where his design career would truly take off.

It was one phone call from a major golf supplier in the US asking for a favor that got Beach the jump-start he needed in the design industry. The supplier had been sent Beach’s way on a recommendation and they were not disappointed with what they received. Something that had taken them days to complete in the past Beach had finished in less than 30 minutes. Now, almost 7 years and close to 100 designs later the creations still flow from Beach’s pencil and paper. Jason Highland of Diamond Tour Golf says, “Adam Beach has worked with and helped design golf products for some of the most recognized names in golf. His ability to see where the golf market is heading is uncanny.” He has designed or consulted on clubs played by Fred Funk, Zach Johnson, Vaughn Taylor, Briny Baird and many more.

After this successful endeavor in the design industry Beach has decided to put it on the back burner for a little while. He wants to focus on something he feels is more important to the golf industry, a Nationwide Amateur Golf Tour that anyone and everyone can play in. “It’s something we’ve needed in this area and all over the country,” Beach states. “You grow up as a kid thriving on competition. Once you are out of high school or college, the competitive element of sports is over with for the most part. In golf, all you have now are captain’s choice and best-ball tournaments. I think people will love a competitive tour like this.” The tour operates similar to a professional tour, except players win gift certificates and prizes at each event instead of money. Members are eligible to play in a 15-event local schedule that kicks off April 6th at Ford’s Colony and concludes Oct 11 at Williamsburg National. Other area venues include: Heron’s Ridge, Virginia Beach National, Kiskiack and Cyprus Creek.

“We’ve put together a great schedule with 15 of the best courses in the area,” Beach said.

All tournaments are 18-hole events on Saturdays or Sundays, with prizes awarded to the top three in Flight A (0-5 handicap), Flight B (6-10), Flight C (11-15), Flight D (16-over).

“We’ll pay up to $400 in gift certificates and prizes for first place in each flight. “This will be the most professional amateur tour you could possibly take part in. We will pull out all the stops to make this a great experience for years to come for all the golfers involved.” Beach states.
