The disease Sarcoidosis is a somewhat unknown disease. It is a condition which causes the body to attack itself in a number of different areas, from the lungs, skin, eyes and lymph nodes. The exact cause of the trigger for the body to attack itself in this way is unknown.

It is when areas of inflammation or, granulomas may appear on, or in the body. There is treatment available for it, however not many people will need treatment and will more than likely make a full recovery without it.

Like many diseases, Sarcoidosis can appear with little or no symptoms however, there are symptoms you need to keep an eye out for including the following:

• Blurred vision and red eyes.
• Blurred vision.
• Breathlessness.
• General loss of well-being.
• Lymph nodes enlarge and are tender.
• Painful joints.
• Red and tender lumps usually appear on the shins (called erythema nodosum).

There are many celebrities who suffer from, or who have suffered from Sarcoidosis. Ludwig van Beethoven and allegedly William Shakespeare are the most notable from history who suffered from the disease. More recently, the likes of Bernie Mac and Floyd Mayweather Sr., father of undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Bernie Mac passed away as a result of Sarcoidosis in 2008. Around one in 10 get the disease and it slowly gets worse over time. For one in 50 people, it proves fatal.

More often than not for people who get the disease, it resolves itself after a couple of years and never comes back.
