Once featured on UK TV’s Channel Four series “Most Haunted”, Craig y Nos Castle in South Wales now has a reputation as the most haunted house in Wales.
However Craig y Nos is also a historic Welsh Castle Wedding Venue. The Castle is located halfway between Swansea and Brecon in the scenic Brecon Beacons National Park – designated an area of ‘outstanding natural beauty’. To ensure couples are not put off by the ghosts, free exclusive use of the wedding venue is to be offered, if 50 guests stay overnight on a B&B basis.
Under Craig y Nos Castle’s Special Offer Castle Wedding Package, couples pay £40 per guest for their wedding breakfast and welcome drinks. With 50 guests staying overnight at the castle, the Couple have the entire castle exclusive, at no charge in venue fees.
Guests dine in the Castle’s 125 capacity Conservatory for their Wedding Breakfast, A huge picture window wall gives diners a fabulous view over the Craig y Nos Country Park, Doors open on to terraces overlooking the rolling mountain scenery of the surrounding Brecon Beacons.
Wedding Ceremonies take place in the Castle’s Grade One Listed Opera House, a magnificent private theatre built by a famous opera singer, Adelina Patti, who makes her benign presence known on occasion. The theatre is now licensed for weddings and the ghost of Patti has been known to give a word or two of encouragement to anyone suffering stage fright!
Evening Parties and discos are held in a separate 150 – 200 capacity function room, affording guests a complete change of scene from the day room. Guests also have the use of a range of lounges and bars on the ground floor, exclusive to their party.Ghost hunts in the castle’s derelict upper levels are an optional extra.
As each wedding is exclusive to one couple and their party, no other guests are present at the castle during their special day. The Bride truly is the princess of her very own fairytale castle for her wedding day. Exclusive use of the castle normally costs over £5,000 in venue fees but is free under the Castle’s Wedding Package.
Guests’ total B&B spend is offset against venue fees, saving the bride over £5,000 in hiring the castle for exclusive use. Brides will need to encourage their guests to book in, and so are advised not to mention anything to their guests about ghosts, and certainly not to say anything about room 35.
The Wedding Package at £40 per head includes a two course wedding breakfast and welcome drinks (2 glasses per guest) for after the wedding ceremony. An evening buffet may be added for just £12.50 per head, for those attending the main wedding breakfast.
Included at no charge is use of the Wedding Ceremony room, the Grade One listed opera house, use of the daytime Wedding Breakfast room (the Conservatory) and use of the evening function room for the late night party, together with various lounges and the main bar on the ground floor of the castle.
