From director Graham Rich, “More than Famous” is the story of Salvadorian-American boxer Carlos “Famoso” Hernandez as he fights for his American dream: two world titles, and the spirit of a country. The film intimately examines the life of the super featherweight boxer, and picks up as the underdog trains for two major fights.
Hernandez returns to boxing prominence at the age of 30, with the help of manager Robert Mittleman and legendary trainer Amilcar Brusa. For months, Hernandez prepares for a world title battle with undefeated WBC champion Floyd Mayweather, on his home turf of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Hernandez’s second fight is a Latin American match against Juan Marcias in El Salvador.
In addition to his fights with Mayweather and Marcias, the film presents an inspiring love story between Hernandez and his wife, Veronica. Their commitment to the American dream and strong grasp of priorities play a determined and charismatic role in the boxing champion’s life.
