Hotels in IT Corridor of Chennai Seeking Out More Business

After break of two long years, Chennai Hotels on IT Corridors are seeing greater business with more people checking in. According to a report, occupancy levels have increased to 85-90 per cent during the weekdays.

The Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) stretch has over a thousand IT and ITES companies. Thus, a clutch of Hotels in Chennai have sprung up in the vicinity namely Ginger Hotels, Fortune Park Hotels, Aloft, Quality Hotel Sabari Classic, Asiana Hotels. The tariff of these hotels ranges between Rs 2,800 and Rs 21,000.

On the prime of the stretch, 20 km southwards from Taramani over 80% of the rooms are sold to corporate clients through annual contracts. Krishnakumar Menon, General Manager, Aloft, Chennai Hotels said that as the IT industry is doing well now Chennai Hotel Bookings are raising and consequently, room rates are firming up here. Thus, they are receiving 70-75 per cent occupancy on an average during week days.

However, S Alagurajan, Director, Asiana Hotels believes that as the economy has bounced back, the hotels in Chennai have reported healthy occupancy levels. Asiana is a one of the 5 star Hotels in Chennai that has reported 85% of occupancy. Moreover, the luxury hotel is also in the process of adding more rooms to the existing 114.

As more hotel projects are lined under progress for this stretch, therefore in such situation increasing occupancy level is definitely good news for them. More than 1,000 rooms are supposed to be added in the stretch in the next couple of years. In addition, four to five big projects i.e. Luxury Chennai Hotels such as Gateway Hotels and Novotel might also be developed.
