The goals of the center are to help sick and injured strays as well as to sterilize animals in order to reduce dog bites and the number of animals on the street.

Leeds, UK, December 05, 2008 — Despite the latest tragedy in Mumbai, i-to-i is committed to bringing travelers to India and has just announced new voluntourism projects in Goa and Kerala.

Kerala is home to 3.44% of India’s people; at 819 persons per km², its land is nearly three times as densely settled as the rest of India. Kerala’s coastal regions are the most densely settled; leaving the eastern hills and mountains comparatively sparsely populated. Kerala’s society is less patriarchal than the rest of the Third World. Gender relations are among the most equitable in India, owing to the former matrilineal system, women in Kerala enjoy a high social status.

Goa is India’s smallest state in terms of area and the fourth smallest in terms of population. Located on the west coast of India in the region known as the Konkan, it is bounded by the state of Maharashtra to the north, and by Karnataka to the east and south, while the Arabian Sea forms its western coast. Renowned for its beaches, places of worship and world heritage architecture, Goa is visited by hundreds of thousands of international and domestic tourists each year.

Care for Mentally Challenged Children in Kerala

The fifteen nuns at the Cottolengo Special School help educate over 70 mentally challenged children in the Kochi area. The aim of the school is to give these marginalized children a chance at independence by teaching them basic life skills. The nuns work tirelessly to give the children the best care possible, however the small staff is often overwhelmed by the high demands of the children. Volunteers are a huge help and play an active role in taking care of the children.
