ISC(2(R) Announces Winners of Annual Cyber Security Awareness Contest

(ISC)(2) announced the winners of its Cyber Security Awareness Month contest, in which top global professionals submitted security awareness materials to the Cyber Exchange, an online repository free to the public.

Palm Harbor, FL, November 20, 2008 — In support of Cyber Security Awareness Month, (ISC)(2)’s 60,000-plus certified members, representing preeminent information security experts from corporate, government and academic arenas spanning the globe, were invited to post materials that organizations and individuals could download to promote online safety at work or within the community for the second consecutive year.

(ISC)(2) member winners were selected based on the number of public downloads of their materials. Each will receive US$1,000 from (ISC)(2). The winners are:

Rohit Kumar Goel, a CISSP, ISO 27001 LA based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, for the “Evolution of Information Security” poster

Veera Subrahmanya Kumar Polisetty, a CISSP, CISA, PMP based in India, for the “Data Security in Public Places” poster

Aaron Marco, a CISSP based in the U.S., for the “5 Minute All Employee Security Education” presentation

K Rudolph, a CISSP based in the U.S., for the “Protect Data on USB Devices” poster

Maurice Stebila, a CISSP based in the U.S., for the “Information Protection Survivor Awareness” flyer

More than 100 cyber security materials were uploaded to the Cyber Exchange during the month of October and more than 10,000 downloads were recorded.

“I congratulate (ISC)(2) for providing such a great platform for its members to reach out to the public, help spread information security awareness and ultimately help make the cyber world a safer place for everyone,” said Rohit Kumar Goel, CISSP, ISO 27001 LA, one of the winners and an information security expert working for Emirate Airline. “This kind of effort from (ISC)(2) serves as a tremendous example of what an organization can do to support a cause greater than itself.”

Another of this year’s winners, Maurice Stebila, who is responsible for security compliance at EDS General Motors (GM), said, “I commend (ISC)(2) for encouraging its members to share their expertise with both the private and public sectors who are attempting to meet stringent compliance standards.”

The Cyber Exchange features a variety of online safety materials in different formats, including posters, flyers, brochures, presentations and games, addressing a variety of topics, including network security, identity theft, Internet privacy, disaster recovery, emerging security threats, mobile security, software development and secure Website design.

“The overwhelming number of downloads from the second annual (ISC)(2) Cyber Security Awareness Month contest illustrate the variety, creativity and compelling nature of the submissions this year,” said W. Hord Tipton, CISSP-ISSEP, CAP, CISA, executive director of (ISC)(2). “The Cyber Exchange will become a permanent fixture on the (ISC)(2) Website so that interested parties can benefit year-round from the knowledge and expertise of our members.”
