Father of 5 beats a field of 25 finalists to become the first Texas winner in foundation history – just in time for father’s day!

Seattle, WA, June 11, 2009 — Jack Hodges, from Duncanville Texas, was announced as the winner of the Fatherhood Foundation’s 2009 Father of the Year Award. Mr. Hodges was nominated by his family, and made it through to the final round which included 25 top nominees. He was nominated for his tireless work with his children and grandchildren, which his kids appreciated enough to warrant a nomination during the 2009 submission process in January. He was also nominated for his years of award winning civil service, which included thousands of volunteer hours with the First Baptist Church of Duncanville, “Citizens On Patrol”, the Katrina response effort, and more.

His fourth son, Brian Hodges, was pleased with the award. “After all the years of him giving his time, focus, and resources, we thought it was fantastic for him to win this award. The USFF (Fatherhood Foundation) recognizes what we recognize all year – that he is truly a father of the year.”

Mr. Hodges is being formally notified of this award next week, and will be invited to partake in the annual black tie banquet and awards ceremony which will be held in Seattle Washington in August. It is customary for the overall winner to accept their award in person, as well as give a keynote speech to the ceremony attendees.

Mr. Hodges was born in Houston, Texas in 1936, and was a stand-out engineering student at Texas A&M. He also trained with the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets, which launched a unique career with both the Army and Navy, where he rose to the Naval rank of Lieutenant Commander. His engineering career spanned several decades with LTV, Boeing, and Northrop, where he managed a number of high profile, top security, advanced aeronautical programs resulting in airplane technology that is still being used and studied today. He is a seasoned small-plane pilot, and was a former member of the AOPA. He once anchored a city champion softball team as the starting first-baseman, and is still active with golf, poker, and bridge. He is married to Carol Hodges of Duncanville, and the two enjoy traveling around the country to visit their geographically dispersed children. The Hodges’, as a family, also used to run regular missions of mercy into impoverished areas of Mexico.

Interestingly, Mr. Hodges’ father Jesse “Elmer” Hodges lived a colorful life as well, having met Clyde of the notorious group “Bonnie and Clyde”. Elmer Hodges was also a former professional baseball pitcher, before settling down to focus on raising Jack.
