Jazzimation!

J

Marsden based animation company, Fettle Animation have partnered up with Marsden Jazz Festival on a unique new project to get children and young people involved in enjoying Jazz, supported by a national lottery grant from the Arts Council.

Artists from the company are out and about working with young people to bring animation and jazz together in a range of fun workshops in local schools, in and around the Pennine village of Marsden. Young people will make abstract animated patterns inspired by jazz from the musicians performing at the Festival. The results will be shown in shop windows around the village and projected onto buildings on Peel Street, Marsden?s main street at night, during the Marsden Jazz Festival on the 12th ? 14th October .

Fettle are also doing a free talk and film screening as part of the Jazz Festival about the relationship between animation and jazz, and showing the work of some remarkable animators and experimental film-makers such as Norman McClaren, Len Lye and John and Faith Hubley.   This is on Saturday 12th October at 3.30pm at Standedge Visitors Centre. Everyone is welcome.

Visitors to the festival can also take part in making their own Jazzimation from 10am on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th October upstairs at Marsden Socialist Club ? both adults and children are welcome. All children must however be supervised by a responsible adult.

Fettle Producer Kath Shackleton said ?We are really excited about this project. This has given us the chance to look back on animators who have inspired us with fun, abstract animation which brings to life the sounds and rhythms of Jazz. We?ve put together an eclectic programme of films which show the joy of what can be achieved when animation and jazz come together. We really enjoy sharing our passion for animation with others. Children also really enjoy getting involved in animation and we love working in schools. It?s magical when children can see their artwork animated and being shown on a giant scale. We can?t wait for the Festival and a chance to see it all come together!?

For Marsden Jazz Festival this continues their commitment to find new ways to get local people involved and inspired by the Festival and the power of music.
